Hi there! My name is Kate Gothing, and I am the newest social media and marketing intern at HMG Creative. I am overly thrilled to join such an amazing team and learn from each and every one of the team members. Currently, I am entering my senior year as an advertising student at the University of Texas at Austin (wow–how time flies!). I was born and raised in a small town outside of Boston, Massachusetts, but have always dreamed of moving to Texas. Unfortunately, I have not been in Texas for my entire college career. For my freshman year of college, I attended DePaul University in Chicago, as a marketing student. After the Polar Vortex of 2014, I decided it was time to move down south, and soak up some much needed sun. Since transferring to UT Austin my sophomore year, I have not regretted it. I mean who could, in such a great city with amazing queso, tacos and BBQ?

My past work experience includes interning for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and for a start-up app called Roo. Fresh out of freshman year I began working as the marketing intern at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, within their Team In Training division. While there, I managed all of the Team In Training’s social media accounts, researched new races and marathons around the area, and wrote blog posts to encourage new runners to join the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s team. I loved working for such an amazing organization, which supports and raises money for families affected by cancer. I learned so much from the Team In Training team as a whole, and I am honored to say that I have had the experience of working for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Working for Roo, I was in charge of consumer outreach to drive their launch, in the best city in Texas! Roo is a social app that is perfect for anyone looking for a fun night out with friends, or just a calm, casual place to have a drink. I hosted events, arranged giveaways, provided the founders with tips and tricks to attract new users, and oversaw all of the other UT Austin campus ambassadors, as they engaged with the UT community. Not only did I help launch an up-and-coming app, but I enjoyed making a few new friends along the way!

When I am not in the office, or the UT library, I am outside enjoying everything Austin has to offer. You can most likely find me hiking the Greenbelt, or doing a few flips off the diving board, into the Barton Springs Pool. I am always trying to find the best burger bar or BBQ joint around Austin and the surrounding area. I am also an athlete for UT’s Women’s Club Gymnastics team, and a sister in Texas Zeta Tau Alpha.

When I graduate, my goal is to work for a leading athletic apparel brand and continue within the marketing and advertising field. The way I see it is: If I can’t play sports for the rest of my life, why not work in the sports field? I have been participating in sports since mommy-and-me classes at the age of three, and I would love to continue to be around what I love until I retire. I have so much to learn about the “real world” as well as marketing and advertising in general. I look forward to continued growth, both personal and professional. There is nowhere else I would rather be learning than right here with the HMG Creative Team.
