My Semester at HMG Creative, Saying Goodbye

After four months of being a spring intern for HMG, I am wrapping up my internship as I finish my last month of classes at The University of Texas at Austin before graduation. As the spring Social Media and Marketing Intern, I have been able to get my hands on a ton of projects throughout my time here. It has been an incredibly valuable experience for me – both personally and professionally.

From day one, I was scheduling social media posts and running editorial content – ranging from blog posts to infographic write-ups to client portfolio highlights. However, the internship proved to be much more than that. I was able to write and run email newsletters for the company. This in particular is an area I was looking to get more experience in, as email marketing is a field I’ve been keen to learn about. I also managed the entire editorial and social media calendar, something I found very useful for organization of web content. Outside of marketing, I even helped design graphics for blog posts and portfolios. Overall, I wrote over 10 blogs (including a SXSW series) and client portfolios, helping with graphics for the majority of these as well.

A main focus area for me – outside of blog content and client portfolios – was increasing our Instagram content. I found the best method to do this was to publish eye-catching images of our work directly to Instagram. With this in mind, I began posting all of our blog content and final client highlights to the feed. The result was a ten-fold increase in engagement, with nearly every post generating double digit “like” engagement, sometimes upwards of 40+. Looking back at the image feed, I am truly proud of my work.

I was able to do all of this and more in just one semester on the team. I cannot recommend this internship opportunity enough for any student looking to gain hands on experience. The team helps you decide what you want to learn and work on – and you get to jump right in doing those tasks. You are more than just an intern – you are a valued team member. The company proved to be a perfect fit for me, and I am incredibly excited to continue to watch HMG Creative continue to grow in the future!
