April in Austin is one of the nicest months of the year. The weather is just perfect, making it a great time to go kayaking, hiking, biking, or cruising around the city with your windows down. Spring has officially set in, and to help you kick it off in the best way possible, we have a list of five fun things to do this month!

The List

Austin Fashion Week

April 10 – April 18

Seven years strong, Austin Fashion Week is the largest fashion event in Texas. The weeklong show will feature an all-new lineup of events. Top swimwear designers will have an event titled “Swim.” Indie and emerging designers will have “Discover,” while “Stars Presented By Bernina” will have shows by designers that have been featured on Lifetime Television’s show Project Runway All Stars. The finale will showcase Austin’s own talent, as well as Mash Ups Runway Show and the presentation of the Austin Fashion Awards. Throughout the week brunch will be served and a gallery of pop up shops will be open for pre & post show viewing all four nights.

Lone Star Round Up

April 17 – April 19

For over 10 years, the Lone Star Round Up has been considered one of the best car shows in the country. The description really says it all: “hot rods and custom cars gather here from every corner of the country to create something special.” Not only will the event have some really cool cars to look at, the weekend will also feature live music, art exhibits, swap meets, and venders. Even if you can’t make it out to Travis County Expo Center, keep an eye out for some of the cars throughout the weekend, especially down South Congress.

Moontower Comedy and Oddity Fest

April 22 – April 25

If you’re looking to spend your weekend laughing – a lot – grab a badge for the Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival. It’s kind of like SXSW but for comedy, taking place at various venues and theatres throughout downtown. Notable headlining acts include Patton Oswalt, Marc Maron, Wanda Sykes, Ron White, and more. You can get a four-day badge for the whole festival or you can get single tickets for headliner events.

Austin Food & Wine Festival

April 24 – April 26

This year’s Austin Food & Wine Festival promises the H-E-B Grand Tasting Pavilion, showcasing over 50 of the finest beverages from across the nation, and 40 food artisans from Austin and beyond. You’ll be able to try amazing food from talent such as Andrew Zimmern, Hugh Acheson, Tim Love, and Richard Blais. There will be wine, beer, and spirits from hundreds of purveyors, as well as over 40 demos and tasting sessions and chances to meet with top chefs. You can also partake in an intimidate kickoff dinner, live music, and yes, taco duels. Even though Austin already has amazing restaurants, you don’t want to miss out on all of the chef-prepared food and wine at this critically acclaimed event. After that if you want to go to gym there are plenty of them so please check out this guide about adjustable dumbbells before going to one.

Giant Chess

Every Saturday, 12:30p – 3:30p

Every Saturday you can head to Wooldridge Square Park and play chess with giant life size chess pieces. Talk about keeping Austin weird, right? It’s a great time of year to be outdoors as much as possible, so if you’re hanging out downtown on Saturday afternoon, be sure to stop by to watch or play a round.
